Some of the difference is an artifact of how Clinton's infidelity was handled. Most of the public believed Monicagate should have been managed privately between him and HRC, but the Starr Report put rather graphic descriptions of sex acts into easily accessible print media. This easily turned public opinion against Starr, who were busy explaining to thier children that cigars are usually smoked after sex, not used as props. Sure it's Clinton's fault these details exist in the first place, but it was those seeking to destroy him who brought them to light.

The notion of 'family values' as a campaign tool isn't unique to adulterous Republicans. Clinton himself uses such rhetoric while running for office. I think the backlash comes from the number of Republicans who openly proclaim certain lifestyles as immoral and deviant, then get caught indulging in such behaviors. I think a better question for both sides to consider may be this: why is fucking a mistress somehow more 'moral' than permitting gay couples to exist unharassed? Why the change in their morality?

The board didn't exist in 1998-1999. I think any disappointment over Clinton's fuck up had faded by the time we started discussing politics here. Sure, you mentioned the blowjob every single thread for the first three years of the board(1), but most of us had moved on by then and just found your obsession sort of sad.

Also, we aren't exactly attacking them for the adultery. It's a private matter other than the allegations of large payoffs and misuse of public funds. Mostly we're pointing out the rank hypocrisy of the "family values" crowd, and in some cases the very same people who attacked Clinton and demanded he resign for his adultery, committing adultery and several other illegal acts themselves and refusing to step down.
