And Bachmann, which is a constant embarrassment.

The latest is the dangers of filling out our Census forms...Fox News and Sean Hannity like giving Michelle a soapbox for her crazy, even though they weren't really rooting this one on. I think even Glenn Beck was a little turned off by her this go round.
"If we look at American history, between 1942 and 1947, the data that was collected by the Census Bureau was handed over to the FBI and other organizations at the request of President Roosevelt, and that's how the Japanese were rounded up and put into the internment camps," said Bachmann.

Well, we have a sitting Congresswoman telling citizens to commit a crime by not filling out a census form. I think that means we can have the military expel her from the country and fly her to Costa Rica now.

I thank the gentleman from Virginia. I support the gentleman's amendment.

We know, Madam Speaker, that this national energy tax will cost the American people $2 trillion. We know that. We know this will result in a loss of 2.5 million jobs every year for the American people. We know that. We know this will result in a reduced standard of living for Americans. We know that. What is the point and what's the benefit?

But what is worse than this is the fact that now, because of this underlying bill, the Federal Government will virtually have control over every aspect of lives for the American people. It is time to stand up and say, We get to choose. We choose liberty or we choose tyranny. It's one of the two.

The underlying bill represents the tyranny and the intervention of the Federal Government. Mr. Forbes' amendment represents liberty for the American people.

It's our choice. What will we choose today? Will we choose liberty or will we choose tyranny?

I choose Mr. Forbes' amendment.
At least she has the people's best interest in some matters.

Ha! That is one of the nuttiest things she's ever said. Sane people don't use language like that when discussing a national energy policy. Liberty or tyranny? Give it a rest nutball. And everything she said about cap-and-trade, or the "national energy tax" as she calls it, was wrong. Go figure.

Lurker is completely beyond the bounds of having any ability at reasonable or polite discourse and this has become typical of the left in American politics.

It is rather sad, actually.

The jingoism and hyperbole of the left is as bad as it ever was on the religious right.

Bachmann is a bit of a loon but her comments as posted by Fal are typical of a floor speech in Congress.

Instead of actually addressing her rhetoric or data Lurker simply calls her a crazy and declares her data inaccurate.

That way he never actually has to back up anything he says.

I say this with the full knowledge that she may well be a crazy and may well be completely inaccurate in what she has said.

Her rhetoric was nutty and her data wasn't supported by the CBO analysis of cap-and-trade legislation. Can you figure out where she got the 2 trillion cost and 2.5 million job numbers?

It's a fierce scientific debate whether she pulled them out of her ass or if she pulled them out of someone else's ass instead.

I didn't say she wasn't crazy.

Taxing every american for everything they do (drive, use electricity, eat, shower, etc.) really does come down to a choice between Liberty and Tyranny (When you charge companies more for producing their goods that is exactly what it comes down to, because they will pass the bill on to the consumer/cut jobs.) So really the government is reaching into our lives to tax everything we do, impeding on our Liberty and moving us even closer to Tyranny.

Her stance on the census though? Completely insane not to fill it out with the possibility to be fined (oh, and I'm sure they would, they need all the money they can get their grubby little fingers on). No thanks.

No taxation without representation!!! Oh... wait...

It just isn't rational to be using words like "Liberty" and "Tyranny" when discussing cap-and-trade legislation estimated to cost about $175 per household. Most people would consider it money well spent, a long needed investment to move the country towards a greener energy policy, and it's one of the issues voted on in the last election.

It's more the talk of the anti-government (only when Dems are in the White House) black helicopter crowd than what you'd expect from an elected member of Congress.

Looks like Missouri has their own Crazy Hypocritical faux-Christian Soccor Mom
http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/19006

Wants to do away with the subsidized lunch program during the summer because "hunger can be motivating" and can't kids get jobs at McDonald's by 16 where they will feed them for free during their break anyway?? This same woman had social services involved in a incidenet where her child was wandering on a busy highway and was accused of illegally converting campaign funds for personal use (paying taxes, buying a car and depositing funds into her personal bank account), denounces evolution, wants abstinence-only sex education taught in the schools, while being the chairperson on the Children and Families committee. I don't feel quite as bad about Bachmann right now.
In her June newsletter, State Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-MO) provided several “commentaries” to a press release from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services on a summer food program.

The program provides “food during the summer for thousands of low-income Missouri children who rely on the school cafeteria for free or reduced-price meals during the regular school year.”

Davis, who serves as the chairwoman of the Missouri House Special Standing Committee on Children and Families, questioned whether the program is “warranted,” and extolled the hidden benefits of child hunger:

Who’s buying dinner? Who is getting paid to serve the meal? Churches and other non-profits can do this at no cost to the taxpayer if it is warranted. [...] Bigger governmental programs take away our connectedness to the human family, our brotherhood and our need for one another. [...] Anyone under 18 can be eligible? Can’t they get a job during the summer by the time they are 16? Hunger can be a positive motivator. What is wrong with the idea of getting a job so you can get better meals? Tip: If you work for McDonald’s, they will feed you for free during your break. [...] It really is all about increasing government spending, which means an increase in taxes for us to buy more free lunches and breakfasts.

A report by Feeding America found that one in five Missouri children currently lives with hunger. Taking apart Davis’ other arguments, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial noted that most of the summer feeding program sites are actually hosted by churches and that the program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, fed 3.7 million meals at a total cost of less than $9.5 million last summer — “a pretty good use of federal money.”
Two practical things about that, first .....most 16 year olds are having trouble finding summer jobs since college students are competing with them, due to grown adults competing with them, for their usual Summer jobs now, so when you show up for a job at the quickie mart or fast food place, you are now competing with grown adults for their jobs. Not to mention that unless they repeal child labor laws, there isn't a job for a 9 year old. Second, I remember one of our Summer interns complaining about their first job at McDonalds when they were 17 - among many gripes one of them was that they do not even give you their shitty food for free if you worked there - just a discount. I doubt that has changed in the past 4 years.

Most fast food joints have specific policies about employess getting discounted or free meals. In addition, most of the fast food joints that I and my friends have worked at in the past ignored these policies, allowing their employees free food within reason. As long as someone wasn't taking home $10-$20 in food every night, no one gave a shit.

Oh, and a 9-year-old can have a paper route, which with proper budgeting could probably feed the kid.

Where do kids under 16 actually delivering papers door to door even exist anymore? Not exactly a safe job for a 9 year old anyway.

More crazy, this time it's only someone on a popular fear-mongering show, rather than a lowly politician.

Al Qaeda has publicly laid out their plans to use the Mexico border against us, Beck was clearly just continuing his voicing of concerns over this plot.
