Sanford...Catch Me if You Can edition

Post by Harlowe »

An affair isn't very intriquing, it's pretty cliche' mid-life crisis stuff, but man.....disappear from your governing obligations without contact for 5 days leaving wife and staffers strumming their lips when asked "where is Waldo", then to put a cherry on top of your moron-sundae you come back and announce (with occasional dramatic choke-ups) how you've been crying for 5 days in Argentina over this, you know, with your lover - good grief.

What an idiot. I am sure his wife and children loved hearing about how he's been spending 5 days crying (and probably humping) in Argentina over ending this affair.

He seems to be a lot like Edwards to me....a huge weiner with a fake tan.
I wanted to do something exotic,"

He sure did want to do someone...thing, exotic.

I don't think anyone could be a bigger dick than Edwards running for President with that affair sitting out there, but Sanford tops him in hypocrisy and lunacy by a mile.

TPM has a statement from his wife. Apparently she asked him to leave two weeks ago as part of a trial separation.

He was quite the romantic too!
I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night's light...

I have compassion for his wife. That has to be devasating to her.

He should step down. If he will betray vows he made to his wife, why should anyone in his state expect they will be treated better?

Yeah, I certainly agree he's not as big of a dick as Edwards is and probably not quite as stupid (they just seem very similar and phony-smarmy to me), but my God....what woman is going to want to take back a cheating husband that just told the world he was crying for 5 days with his damn mistress in an "exotic" locale. I'm so miserable about ending this affair and going back to my wife I wept for days and days.

I felt awful for his wife listening to him, more so due to his awful handling of it and choice of words than for the affair itself.

Its one of the hallmarks of people who cheat. They only express remorse after they are caught. And they tend to fuck up the words because they really are sorry for the pain they caused, but they also are sorry the affair has to end.

Rush Limbaugh says it's Obama's fault, you know even though the affair began a year ago.
LIMBAUGH: This Sanford business! I'll tell you, one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind, with Mark Sanford ... this is the first thought: What he did defies logic. This is ... more than being 180 degrees out of phase because of lust, or love. To split the scene for five days, and we know he's been separated, and he knows, by the way, that the newspaper in his state has the emails between him and his concubine down there in Argentina, he knows this. He knows that somebody knows what's going on. He knows his wife knows. So he ups and leaves for five days, doesn't leave anybody in charge of the state, in case there's an emergency.

LIMBAUGH: This is almost like: I don't give a damn! Country's going to hell in a handbasket. I just want out of here!

LIMBAUGH: He had just tried to fight the stimulus money coming to South Carolina. He didn't want any part of it. He lost the battle and said "What the hell? The Federal government is taking over! I want to enjoy life!"
The commentary made me chuckle...
And it goes on from there. Apparently, it's all President Barack Obama's fault, for killing people's "spirit," and making them so "fed up" with the SADNESS that they've got no other choice but to abdicate their grown-up responsibilities and start philandering "before Obama takes away their money" and "their house." And Bill Clinton was in Argentina "the other night," too! So everyone is going to Buenos Aires, for succor. It will be a marvel and a wonder if any 2012 contender hasn't logged some serious time with Latin American mistresses.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that this is a very cunning plan by President Obama, who somehow managed to depress Sanford's spirits so much that he started having an affair months before Obama even became President and started enacting policies.

My favorite Rush inspired commentary...
Hunter on Dkos wrote:Now that "I've just been so depressed since my state was forced to take federal funding in order to help unemployed people and our school system" is a good excuse for getting kicked out of the house by your wife, swiping a state vehicle, abandoning your job as governor and booking a flight to Argentina for a ten-day bars'n'sex romp, I can't imagine what the hell could be next. Given how much they go on about marrying dogs, ducks and turtles, though, I think the repeal of DOMA could well result in a million-conservative march to the everglades for the world's largest freshwater orgy.

It was from HuffPo. Harlowe didn't want to ruin her jackbooted union busting image by linking directly there.

So what did Rush actually say in regards to Obama and Sanford?
Limbaugh: He said, "What the hell? The federal government's taking over. What the hell? I want to enjoy life." One of the first things I thought, now today he's saying he doesn't want to give up office, he wants to stay in office. (sigh) But even Charles Krauthammer said last night: this is like self-inflicted political suicide. And it certainly appeared to be. The point is there are a lot of people whose spirit is just broken. They're fed up with it and saying, "To hell with it. I don't want to fight it anymore. I just want to get away from it," and here's Obama admitting: "Well, we can't start making judgments based on people's spirit." Imagine if we had had presidents in the past who said we couldn't make judgments on any number of political issues using "people's 'spirit.'" It's the American exceptionalism the spirit-can-doism that built the country. Spirit's everything. Energy, desire, get-up-and-go. Ambition! The woman's mother had ambition to live. She just needed a pacemaker. It didn't matter. She should take a painkiller! I'm telling you, this is a coldhearted, ruthless guy. Not a cool, calm, and collected one.
After which he took a break, after break he started talking about the ABC healthcare infomercial.

Yes, the first quote was direct dialog where he said nothing of Obama. I meant the dialog that included Obama, which was a lead-in to him talking about the ABC healthcare infomercial where Obama said:
But what we can do is make sure that at least some of the waste that exists in the system that's not making anybody's mom better, that is loading up on additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care, that at least we can let doctors know and your mom know that, you know what? Maybe this isn't going to help. Maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.
In response to:
She's 105 now. Over 105. But at 100 the doctor had said to her, I can't do anything more unless you have a pacemaker. I said, go for it. She said, go for it. But the arrhythmia specialist said, no, it's too old. Her doctor said, I'm going to make an appointment, because a picture is worth a thousand words. And when the other arrhythmia specialist saw her, saw her joy of life and so on, he said, I'm going for it. So that was over five years ago. My question to you is, outside the medical criteria for prolonging life for somebody elderly, is there any consideration that can be given for a certain spirit, a certain joy of living, quality of life? Or is it just a medical cutoff at a certain age?
That is how 'Spirit" and Obama got drug into it, as a segue-way for talking about healthcare. Let me highlight the sentence in Rush's dialog which relates it to everyone's spirit for you:
The point is there are a lot of people whose spirit is just broken.
So no, the Huffington Post commentary (the second quotation) wasn't exactly what he said. The first quotation, which was never in question, was direct quotes from Rush. As I said, "what did Rush actually say in regards to Sanford and Obama?". It was a horrible segue-way, for sure, but Huffington Post portrayed it incorrectly.

No, seriously. I'm asking you to summarize what your point is because I'm not seeing it. Are you defending Rush and claiming he never blamed Obama or the Democrats for Sanfords actions? You posted a lot of text but I have no idea why.

Huffington Post's commentary about what Rush said was incorrect.

Rush used Sanford's "broken spirit" as a segue-way that people's "spirits are broken" which led him into talking about Obama's ABC healthcare infomercial where Obama had said you can't "question people's spirit." It was a horrible segue-way, but he was hardly blaming Sanford's "broken spirit" on Obama.
