Just for you Lulu, The Hannah Montana Movie
So picture it, the movie theater, 2:15 on a Monday on the last day of Spring Break.... with Hannah Montana.
Little girls (who's brothers got dragged out there, probably because mom decided not to send them off on their own to Monsters Vs Aliens) dancing in their seats, singing terribly loud to every Hannah Montana/Taylor Swift/Rascal Flatts song that came up on the big screen.
The movie in and of itself wasn't nearly as bad as the TV show. Sans laugh track it's not that the acting or the plot line were overly terribly. It was heartfelt without too much of the creepy Billy Ray/Miley vibe ala the Vanity Fair spread, and it certainly hit it's target audience between the eyes. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, but not nearly as good as I had hoped it would be.
Miley ruins her friends birthday party, and wants to blow off her Grannys birthday party for Music Awards in NY so Daddy takes her back to Tennessee to see if there's even a country girl left in her at all. She rediscoveres herself, and remembers why Hannah Montana was created to begin with, decided she can't lead this double life anymore and gives up singing, but of course everyone loves her and reminds her Hannah is a part of her and she can't just give up everything she loves, so she gets to tell everyone she's Hannah Montana, and still be Miley Stewart with a cute little girl begging her to please be Hannah Montana.
I had heard rumors that this movie was the grand finale of the show where "Sweet niblets" attempts to become the new catch phrase, but alas i'm sure we'll continue to see Hannah Montana for a little while longer, which will give great pleasure to Allu, who may eventually get suckered into this and the Disney Company, who's making a killing off their tween phenomenon.

You can look forward to eating disorders, engaging in early sex with abstinence only education, letting boys call the shots while lacking the confidence to speak up, playing dumb to get attention, and piercing their lips before gym class. O wait, this is supposed to be a surprise.

Don't worry, those of us without children will probably have someone even worse than Hannah Montana and Twilight hysteria to deal with when we have teenage girls.

wtf country do you live in? not all young women (girls) are like that. if they are then that is the fault of the overindulgent guilt-ridden parents who have convinced themselves that they really NEED all the extraneous crap that they've brainwashed themselves into thinking they need. i know lots of older teens who are pretty amazing people and most of them are girls.Select wrote:You can look forward to eating disorders, engaging in early sex with abstinence only education, letting boys call the shots while lacking the confidence to speak up, playing dumb to get attention, and piercing their lips before gym class. It was half serious bitterness. I know not all are like that. I go to school with quite a few who aren't.

Re: Just for you Lulu, The Hannah Montana Movie
Now lets not pretend Select is totally off base. MY 12 year old is intelligent, she's not the sharpest tool in the shed but she's no moron and her reading level is that of a 12th grader, and her reading comprehension is through the roof, and yet she has a C and has all year in her RELA class (Reading. English, Language Arts - it's all rolled into one class) and it's a GATE class which is the high school equivalent of a college prep class, and she said that maybe she has a C because it's a GATE class. Personally I'm dissapointed, i want her to want better for herself, but I have certainly had the thought that in high school she may change from the "I want a college degree" mentality, to the "who needs a degree when you can be a housewife" mentality. I have no problems with whatever path she chooses but I'd like all my kids to get degrees. Basically I won't want them to have regrets, or think they're not smart enough, or they don't have to be smart because (insert reason here). Lacking confidence is a rampent trait in teenage girls, however many over compensate for it by being bitches, or shy or whatever else. Nevermind the abstinence only education, my kids are already receicing a real world education from their parents, it's MY job to make sure my kids get a better sex education then I did, which probably wouldn't have changed the fact I was a pregnant teenager, but that hardly seems the point. As far as piercings go, holes close, hair grows back and I'm all for freedom of expression however I'd really rather see it done with hair and clothes and makeup, but whatever. I won't be signing anything for piercings anyway.Select wrote:You can look forward to eating disorders, engaging in early sex with abstinence only education, letting boys call the shots while lacking the confidence to speak up, playing dumb to get attention, and piercing their lips before gym class. That is the case now, but I'd be willing to bet that MOST women go through at least one of the things Select mentioned in high school. The good news is that most out grow it.Select wrote:I know not all are like that. I go to school with quite a few who aren't

I only skimmed through that blob of text, but the gist is that she's smart, but doesn't try hard in school?Ariannda Kusanagi wrote:Now lets not pretend Select is totally off base. Good for her, she figured things out early! If I could go back and do things over again, I would have not tried at all in high school and ditched college. I'd still probably be in the same position I'm in now, minus the multitude of student loans.

She's just willing to settle for good enough, i'd like her to push herself a little bit. It seems like a bad, lazy habit to get into in only 6th grade

Re: Just for you Lulu, The Hannah Montana Movie
I realize this, which is why i have had her re-write every current event and book report she's ever written, i've tried to lay the foundation for basic essay writing skills (who, what, why, when, where and how... etc) as well as the proper formatting. Honestly I'm looking into the private school, I want my children to have the best possible education (and believe me after having met a few of the parents who's kids went from the local middle schools to the private school i'm almost convinced) as well as the most attention that can be provided for them. In 6th grade she has a standing Thursday night current event to be written for Ancient History class, and math twice a week, and English home once in a blue moon. I don't understand how they essentially have NO homework, and I have talked to the teachers so basically said some kids they only have every other day and basically it never gets done so they don't assign it. Other parents with kids in other middle schools have mentioned the same thing, but meanwhile my 3rd grader had 3 hours worth of homework last night. I mean something just seems wrong about it.
In defense of my 3rd grader she has a much bigger workload because she's in a program at a magnet school for gifted, talented and intelligent children, where they learn the same thing on the grade levels of their counterparts (as opposed to skipping grades) but they learn in a much more enriching and fulfilling way. But still the difference in homework astounds me. I remember having homework in 6th grade, science projects, book reports. She hasn't had a single book report, no reading list or anything else this year.
