If someone steals your car then you no longer have a car. If someone makes unauthorized copies of your work then you do still have your work and can make other sales.

It gets even weirder though. If you ask the MPAA/RIAA then you don't actually own anything when you buy a DVD or CD. You are entering into a licensing contract where the copyright holder grants you the right to play the work in a limited fashion (technically you can't have friends over to watch movies or let someone else listen to your CD) for the one-time payment you make at the store. With software, it's even worse and you may not even have the legal right to resell things you buy (despite GameStop etc. making a packet from it) because you aren't actually *buying* anything and if you lose your media then good luck trying to get another copy from the publishers despite your still having the right to it.

In addition, copyright for life+75 years (or whatever it's at these days) is just plain broken. I can handle a period of 5-10 years but beyond that things should enter the public domain for anyone to take and improve on. Copyright should exist to foster advancement and not as a protection racket - if you can't make something better after having exclusive rights for 10 years then it's time to let someone else try.

So, while I don't condone copyright infringement I can't feel too bad for media publishers that have had a virtual monopoly on distribution who continually engage in a whole swathe of unethical and immoral tactics to protect their outdated and dying business models.

This movie sucked ass. Don't waste any money on it, IMO. A great marketing team is all it takes to make a great blockbuster these days.

Your day is coming Lulu !

I remember when my oldest was 3 and the Pokemon movie came out and she literally cried to go see it, so fairly pregnant with number 2 i packed her up, stood in line at the theater, AND got her the special Pokemon kids snack pack and went to the movie. She sat through the whole thing too.

I would probably be a little happier with the new Zac Ephron movie, but it is what it is lol.

I'd see the Zac movie. He's hot. And legal. I'd just feel like a dirty ole cougar. But, that's ok.

I don't think Zac is cute at all. He and the Jonas Bros creep me out a little. I do think Robert Pattison is hawt, but he's in his 20's so I don't have to feel dirty about it.

Jonas Brothers are creepy. Zac is hot in a pretty way--kind of like Rob Lowe was back in the day. He's nice eye candy, but nothing more.

The beginning was terribly cheesy and takes you out of the movie zone. The last fight was great.

I liked the part where Cyclops, Gambit, and Wolverine do a level 5 Hyper-combo finish on M. Bison.

Raped Wolverine's origin. Movie was bad, wasn't funny in conjunction with being bad. Cyclops was just thrown in there cause they could. Horrible movie was horrible.

I enjoyed it. But I went in with really REALLY low expectations.

There was really no emotion to it. The chick "dying" was lame. The old people dying was equally as lame.

Patrick Stewart at the end was a cool idea, but WTF? It was like they CGI'ed him in or something. It just looked like shit.

Gambit, I liked him.

I thought it was fun. I wasn't expecting it to be stellar.

TV shows are an interesting one. If you torrent it rather than Tivo it, is there really a difference?
I will not download movies, but have zero problems torrenting tv shows that are available online, open air, and through other avenues.

The only parts of this movie I liked were when Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) uses his katana to cut a bullet in half as it is flying towards him and killing two people behind him. Was just a neat trick. Hugh Jackman also always nails the Wolverine role head on. Sabertooth wasn't bad, but with him walking around in what basically equates to goth gear with the trenchcoat and such it really threw off his persona for me. Blob was just kinda funny, only had a couple of lines and I think 1 major scene.

WTT Embar for Relbeek.

*agree Turdyschlong*

I think the 'omg stealing media' debate is invalidated by the fact that no matter what happens - there will always be a way. Does it make it right? Probably not. People will 'steal' (aka clicking a few buttons and then pointing their eyes at a screen) movies as long as the industry keeps on making them.

I steal music/movies/games/etc. because I'm poor as fuck. Those luxuries that other people 'worked so hard' for aren't available to me at this point in my life. It cost the production $90ish million dollars to make Wolverine. As of today, it's estimated Fox/whatever production made $151-159 million so far. I don't think the hands that are in this franchise are going to be preparing peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches anytime soon.

I'll go to the movies maybe once a month. The ones I can't afford to go see, I'll download :)

I myself am an artist. I pay for studio time and production for media. I woulden't be as 'heartbroken' as Hugh Jackman if some people stole my/our shit. Maybe it's just me. The fans that want to pay and support us WILL do so :) (the very few fans we do have). I've accepted internet piracy. I think until (insert Hollywood star/Successful artist/Producer Mogul) is eating Kraft mac and cheese out of the box every night - sweating without the AC on and driving their used Dodge that doesn't start half the time, they shouldn't complain over the enormous success/profit margins that make life so pleasant and easy.

I'm an entitlement whore, and I'm proud.

Yes, I'm sure everybody worked sooooo hard on making wolverine (as with the game, t-shirts, toys/action figures, etc). But I think that they should be glad they've made a profit off of this. The movie is extremely sub-par to most people's expectations. Now, if Shawshank Redemption just came out today and cost $100million to make and they ended up grossing $10million in it's first month - yet met the critical acclaim it did... I'd probably sing to a different tune.

IMDB, rottentomatoes, as well as other review sources play a big part in my pirate antics.

Well anyways, Imma head over to Piratebay and get some shit going now that I think about it.

Hehe. The production budget for Wolverine was 150 million. As of three days ago they have grossed 151 million. Now if you factor in the advertising.....they are still way in the hole.

Guess I should stop listening to IMDB info. Well, it turns out Wolverine has made shy of $300M internationally (this is just the movie we're talking about, the peripheral marketing/franchising should run it up a bit higher). $151M here in the states.

Peanut butter jelly sandwiches, man :(

Yup.....and the opperative word is gross.....not net. My guess is their US marketing expenses were around 30 million. Probably tack on another 15-20 million for the international release.
