Oh Christ....Kardio? Some variation of that name? The guy who was overly Christian and wouldn't ever shut up about Tunare and such? He had a little girlfriend or something who would spam PoK, too. Both high elves. I remember I started going off (in Iksarian necromancer fashion) about how their goddess was a whore, and only fear and submission to Cazic could bring true salvation. Anyway, he got super irritated with me and my combative RP, ahahaha.Arathena wrote:Haha, oh, man. Either Kardio or Jjjaman. I don't recall, other than total incompetence and that massive mistell. Also, I was too pissed off to proselytize. Targeting someone and chain punching the Harm Touch button in frustration counts as preaching for Innoruuk though, amirite?

Maybe it's a different spelling. Even if it's banned I don't believe the names actually open up.That or one came over on Cazic and the Sun you had on Brell got the x at the end of the name, or whatever they did when there were two of the same person when the servers merged.
I doubt they are the same person, since it's gone through at least two owners.

Ain't it funny that people always remember bad clerics and bad enchanters? All the other classes had sucktards too, but only the crappy chanters and clerics seem to stand out.

You can tell a bad monk to go fuck himself. But even a bad cleric is better than no cleric at all.

Kind of. They were the identifable points of failure. For the healer and mezzer, there were baseline standards that if you couldn't reach, someone else had to be a demigod. In a pinch, anyone that wasn't wearing a dress can tank. Sometimes, even the robes could tank. When the wizard over aggros and dies, it just took another twenty seconds to kill the mob. When the monk brought six, what did it matter if the enchanter could lock down four of them in a reasonable time? Their power to cause success was out of line with the other classes.Embar Angylwrath wrote:Ain't it funny that people always remember bad clerics and bad enchanters? Now, if that monk fucks up and brings those four, and the enchanter can't get them locked, can't get them slowed, and doesn't even have her stuns memmed because 'they don't do enough damage!', your tank better be a demigod of aggro and your cleric better be able to piss out the heals for the tank, and himself, and know when it's time to just let the wizard die. When your warrior hauls out the fungi tunic because the fucking cleric can't heal him against a single target you're in deep shit. What's the hope of a cleric -that bad- managing to react to an imperfect situation?

Re: PostSecret Nod to EQ
A bad ranger just took agro and died every pull, where a bad cleric/chanter would kill the entire group repeatedly. That's why my main was a cleric most of the time I played EQ and I was really close with some awesome chanters. Good healing with good CC and the group could do some damn near impossible things.Embar Angylwrath wrote:Ain't it funny that people always remember bad clerics and bad enchanters? But cleric was a thankless job sometimes. People thought that every cleric was somehow obligated to click any corpse on the entire server at any time (usually 10 zones away). I never minded when someone was polite about it, but when people would drag their whole dead group to my feet and chain-hail all the corpses and automatically assume that I'll drop everything I'm doing and click them, that really bugged me. Yeah, it's 10 seconds per corpse of my time, but it is my time. But if someone was nice about it I almost never said no, and always hit /autosplit for any donation with the group - it's their time too.
If I was playing any one of my bazillion alts and we had a horrible cleric, usually I'd just politely drop from the group and go 2-box my shaman and necro. Or I'd sit a cleric/chanter outside the group on another box. The wife and I had 5 accounts at one time, usually with access to a few more. It was nice being self sufficient. You can tell a bad monk to go fuck himself. But even a bad cleric is better than no cleric at all.

Re: PostSecret Nod to EQ
As a person who played a cleric in a raiding guild, I can tell you there was ENORMOUS pressure to be absoultely perfect in timing and decisions. Rotational timed heals were a bitch, and they absolutely depended on the tanks being able to grab and hold aggro. Once aggro started to bounce, it was almost a guaranteed wipe.
Anyone not on the tank rotation who grabbed aggro was left to die. Quite a few rangers, rogues and wizzies learned to control damage output that way. Hell, even in groups it was more mana efficient to rez a ranger or wizzie than it was to heal them.
And necros? Clerics best friend! Mana infusions, ghetto rezzes, FD... omg the more necros on the raid, the better in my opinion. I think Arkaron is personally responsible for more cleric rezzes than I care to remember. I know I was the recipient of much necro love.

When we did the Pre-nerf AOW, we wound up using 'transition tanks', sacrifical knights whose job was to take aggro and get one-rounded to buy the rotation the 5 seconds they needed to load up on the next warrior. We hadn't planned it, but at the first transition, it happened anyway, and we did it the next time deliberately. That was fun. >_o
Also, <3 for Arkaron. <4, too.

Re: PostSecret Nod to EQ
I think it is a class factor. Most people remember bad enchanters and clerics (although I loved playing one when I was Vowel's custodian) but I remember shit tanks, druids, and wizards more.Embar Angylwrath wrote:As a person who played a cleric in a raiding guild, I can tell you there was ENORMOUS pressure to be absoultely perfect in timing and decisions.
With respect to my own experience, I remember ending up on a number of people's consent hotkeys. This ended up being a surprising point of pride for me, because other people--even those who disliked me--trusted I would survive wipes in places like Uqua, and whatever version of Ikkinz at level 65.
I do remember at some point that Embar started speaking to me directly during raids, I think at my request. I honestly never minded. I wanted you to enjoy the game, but we (Alarius necros from that period) knew how stressful it was for you at times.
I heart you guys, too.

Complete Heal was the biggest mistake Sony made in EQ1. They should have just taken it away when the rotations sprang up in Velious and rebalanced.

Re: PostSecret Nod to EQ
I specifically remember letting various warriors and SK's logging onto my account, with me logging onto theirs. I could out agro them no matter which class they'd logged in to (mine or theirs) but i had learned to control agro at that point in time. It was fun tho =D
I love playing my cleric in eq2. I'm a good cleric, and i enjoy the class. I wish i'd played one more in eq1 but for Drac i was class bitch. Whenever they raided I'd log on whatever class was needed, normally Aaean the druid or various clerics, so I did get experience on various classes

They definitely are completely different animals. I think playing a cleric in EQ1 certainly makes playing a cleric in other games (including EQ2) seem a lot easier and more fun.EQ1 clerics and everything after are completely different. I know. I've played a healer in every MMO I've tried.
