X360 sales to date = 22 million.
PS3 sales to date = 16 million.
X360 attach rate = 8.1
PS3 attach rate = 5.2
(ie X360 owners are buying more games for their console than PS3 owners)
I wouldn't trust the commentary at ps3fanboy to be completely objective either.
Right now, the X360 is outselling the PS3 in Japan by about 50% - that's a pretty scary number for Sony. The US market is fairly saturated with the X360 so you're going to see some catchup by the PS3 which still has to make anywhere near the same penetration. The attach rate shows there's much more value for a software house in coding for the x360 (and it's cheaper to code for the X360 too, which helps), so Sony's still in a lot of trouble despite a couple of quarters where they didn't dip as much as the X360 did in sales.
The scariest thing for Sony is they are still raking in huge losses on the consoles, while MS is making profits on the console sales despite the recent price cuts. Add in the better attach rates (which translates directly to more money) and Sony is hurting pretty badly. The PS3 just isn't a good system for them.
