WTF 1.3 (LOL @ Drudge)

Drudge is entring the final weekend before the election and doing everything in his power to push negative stories about Obama into the mainstream. This latest is also one of the lamest.

Yeah, that link at the top says "Obama Vows to Create 'Civilian National Security Force'..." and it leads to a 20 second video clip from an Obama speech. Images flash through my head of the brownshirts from the 30's with a budget of 500 billion a year. Wow... that is some fightening stuff.

There's a problem though. This nontroversy is from JULY. The line is from Obama's "Call to Service" speech where he asks all Americans to serve their country. It's worth a listen and not very scary at all.

Turns out Drudge is pushing the nontroversy now, three months after the fact, because Little Green Footballs just highlighted the story a few days ago. Drudge has always scraped the bottom of the barrel, but now he's busted through and is hyping blog entries from LGF. Couldn't happen to a sleazier guy.

Seriously. I only like the site because it has links to TONS of sources. When I see something interesting I post it. Drudges credibility or non credibility is not really at issue since the actual stories are from other places.

I NEVER post his stuff that is not sourced from an actual news agency and I ALWAYS take such stuff with a grain of salt.

I haven't seen anything credible from you in these WTF posts and others have called you out for being a drama queen at least twice during this election season. I don't believe I've seen anyone else here called out that way. Either you are in fact being a drama queen or you are a horrible communicator because you are certainly giving that impression.

I don't think can deny that you went mental over JTP, while not showing a care about Obama's aunts privacy. Just like you were more concerned about voter registration fraud, over actually taking away tens of thousands of people's right to vote.

As far as nothing credible? So folks did not steal the vote from a mentally challenged person? They have not tried to steal a vote from a person in a nursing home? They never dug into Joe's government files? Obama's aunt is not an illegal immigrant living on welfare? I never once saw you actually dispute any of the allegations...only distract, deflect, and dodge them.

Covering your ears and going "neener neener I can't hear you" does not equal a lack of credibility for the allegations.

While none of the charges are specifically directed at Obama his supporters definitely have gone a bit batshit lately.

Does it all mean I do not support him? Not at all.

Does it bother you that if anything related to Obama is questioned you go all wierd and defensive? I remember that was the thing you hated most about the Bush presidency. You hated the lock step mentality.

Well, as a conservative who is 90% sure he is voting for Obama I am damn sure going to hold EVERY aspect of his presidency to scrutiny and I think that is as patriotic as a citizen can be.

I didn't dodge or distract from any of your supposed allegations. I responded, others responded, but now you choose to be dishonest like your buddy JTP and try to pull the "oh they tap-danced better than Sammy Davis" kind of bullshit responses.

No one would go "weird and defensive" if you actually brought up legitimate criticisms to discuss (which of course there are plenty of actual differences that could be debated, Obama certainly isn't the all-time most perfect candidate ever - he's just the right one for right now given the choice). Instead you just parrot shit from Breit/Drudge, basically whatever their red headline happens to be. Then claim people are lock-stepping with the Obama camp?

Hardly. People get defensive over smear tactics. Pure and simple.

What is a shame is that you employ the same Rovian tactics Bush used (a favorite of Drudge's) and try to paint yourself as someone apart from that.

There's no tinfoil hat speculation needed to know that Drudge is a right wing hack who helps mainstream distorted negative stories about Democrats. The movers and shakers in the media admit it.

We all do. Ddrak called you a drama queen twice in the last two weeks.

As for the rest of it, what Harlowe said. We responded. Anyone breaking the law should be held to account. What we refuse to do is allow isolated incidents to be distorted or elevated to mean something more than they do. I'll leave that sort of dishonest one sided distortion to people like Drudge.

Is is just me, or has Drudge lost some serious credibility this year?

We've always known he was conservative, but the media tended to follow his lead anyway. Since the primary, though, his headline choices have been so one-sided (where only outlying polls showing a tight race are printed in red, and bogus controversies like Obama's 2001 redistribution quote are given a full-day headline), that Drudge's spell has been broken. He's not driving our focus anymore. The media seems to be ignoring him, and although I still check his page regularly, he's no longer my first stop for political news (that's you and politico). I check in on him with more of a vague curiosity these days, like Huffington Post, to see what the ideologues are talking about. It feels like the end of an era, and I wonder if he'll come back from it.

I don't know what happened. I loved the old Drudge Report, and I hope it comes back soon. Maybe he's positioning to be the opposition to Obama. It will certainly help Drudge if he goes back into opposition. But from there, he needs to channel the smart opposition, not the dumb, paranoid and bigoted one.

I'm all for smart opposition. If Drudge finds his credibility again, I won't have to make fun of his headlines anymore and maybe Huffington will stop kicking his ass for traffic.
