Yes, I disagree with your statement. The entire economy was based on borrow-spend. Just about everyone, including the rich (your definition of rich anyway), borrowed to spend. Borrowed the equity in their homes through HELOC and cash-out refis.. borrowed to take a car loan, borrowed to make infrastructure improvements and capital purchases in businesses (which provide jobs). The poor were probably hurt less from their inability to borrow, than they will be when they lose jobs becuase of the credit crisis.Partha wrote:The only one making it a 'class issue' is you. I simply point out that the people most likely to need that financial help can't get it. Since the poor need more of it, they get hit harder when none is available. Do you disagree with that statement? If so, on what do you base your disagreement, that the poor need more aid than the rich, or that they can't get it?

So poor people should suffer because the rich were irresponsible with their finances? Interesting worldview you have there.

That's not a fair interpretation of what Embar said. I think you know that.

I think there is plenty of evidence to show the irresponsibility was engaged in by all social classes.Partha wrote:So poor people should suffer because the rich were irresponsible with their finances? Interesting worldview you have there.
And I will remind you, that poor people always suffer, kind of one of the definitions of poor. Do you think they will suffer more becuase they can't get a credit card? Or will they suffer more if they don't have a job, becuase, ya' know, them poor people sure do depend on rich people for employment.

Well, considering he did the Texas Two-Step to my question, I'll merely do what he does so often. Hope he enjoys it.Lurker wrote:That's not a fair interpretation of what Embar said. I think you know that.

You asked "Do you disagree with my statement?"
I answered: "I disagree with your statement."
Yep, clearly a dodge there.

Ignoring the second half of that question was a dodge.

While I'm at it.Or will they suffer more if they don't have a job, becuase, ya' know, them poor people sure do depend on rich people for employment
Almost 80% of all jobs are created by businesses with less than 500 employees. I'd also wager that a lot of the bigger businesses don't have many jobs that fall into the 'poor' category. No, the poor depend on the middle class, both in taxation and in employment for the most part. The rich operate in a different environment from the average American, sad to say.
And what this has to do with going to college, I have no clue. Perhaps you can make your point how the Paris Hiltons of the world need Pell Grants sometime in this thread?
