for sheer unadulterated scariness the exorcist takes it followed by the omen. for gross gore move.....the wizard of gore. omg i had to leave less than ten minutes into that one. maybe it was the drugs (this WAS the 70's) but i've not been able to watch a gore movie since.

Throwing my 2c worth on what I've watched of Supernatural. After reading what was said here, I went and checked it out. I've watched about half of season 1, and to be honest I'm ready to fall asleep with it. Most of the stories are familiar, but they're incredibly formulaic and predictable. The visuals are nice but that's about all it has going for it, and that's certainly not enough to keep my attention.

I liked the pilot. The Woman In White bit was pretty cool, and I did like the twist on her. But the end of that episode, the younger brother's girlfriend and all that...my God I saw that coming a mile away. And it continues in that vein from there on. Nothing is particularly surprising. Everything is exactly what I'm expecting. There's no particularly deep character development, and for that matter there's only two recurring characters that can even be developed at all, and they still can't manage to do much with them.

I think I finally lost interest with Bugs. That whole episode was made of lame cake with fail icing. So...bleh.

I don't think you can really appreciate the series until you get through the first and start on the second (i think someone already mentioned that). The first one was, like I said "meh", but towards the end it gets good and you really need the first season to set up the second.

Oooh, I found that clip a couple months back, and yes it's creepy. It's also awesome.

I remember that movie and I loved it as a kid. I'd forgotten that part until I saw the clip. I wish I could find some of those movies for my own kids to watch (Unico, the Last Unicorn, Adventures of Mark Twain... hell what happened to "The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" ?)

What she said. And yes, it's formulaic. I've said that a few times, but it's good formulaic, imho. I was expecting a lot less. Nobody hyped it up for me. I got it on a whim. Maybe that's part of it.

For what it is (a show on the same channel that they have "Gossip Girl" and "America's Next Top Model,") it's absolutely above par.

I hated the bug episode, btw. And the last part of season 1 is very very "meh" with the exception of the last episode or two. It hit high notes for me at first, then slid a bit (especially w/Bug episode) then was very average and started right back up again and kept going into season 2. I was more impressed as it went on. Season 4 is great. But, I'm already a fan now. :)

And yeah, it's similar to shows like Babylon5 in the sense that you absolutely and completely need season 1, but it's the slowest and more formulaic of all the seasons. You cannot watch the rest w/o it, though. It sets it up.

But, if you're expecting something on the level of Carnivale, keep lookin...

Unlike a lot of other shows on television (Heroes) it doesn't get suckier as it goes. It seems to be the little engine that could and gets better. Like other shows on WB/CW (Charmed, Smallville, Buffy,) it's a workhorse show that builds. Well, I heard Smallville has gone to shit, but I haven't see past season 6 yet.

I dig Supernatural, bought s1 but haven't finished it yet. Fun show.

On the topic of scary movies, I'm surprised nobody mentioned Jaws. I wouldn't call it a horror movie, but I know that the flick has scared the shit out of plenty of people. For me, I love horror movies and shows but I wouldn't say that any of them truly scare me. However, books are a different story - reading a good horror novel before falling asleep has been the culprit of lots of nightmares, but that's probably to be expected. Books function on a different level of your imagination compared to movies. :D

Jaws was scary.

Speaking of scary movies, I hear they're remaking Friday the 13th. Thoughts?

Supposed to be remaking Hellraiser as well. There were talks of a new Pinhead.
