Re: Debates
I was wondering how being the mother of a 4 month old baby with Downs' Syndrome gave Palin some sort of expertise on autism...nor how that would make her a good president if he were to cack.

Re: Debates
I was wondering the same thing, because one obviously has so much to do with the other. I'd assume she knows enough about Downs Syndrome to help her child cope in life, but then again I'd also think a mother of 5 wouldn't be dragging her kids everywhere and keeping them up all hours of the night as well. Couldn't they still be in school in nowhere Alaska while Mommy tries to take over the world ?Harlowe wrote:I was wondering how being the mother of a 4 month old baby with Downs' Syndrome gave Palin some sort of expertise on autism...
I fell asleep halfway through the debate, but I was especially interested in the question where they were point blank asked "Would you say the same things your campaign ads have said, to your opponents face" and all I could think was "Obama, point that finger and tell McCain he IS old, he IS losing his mind and he IS basing his entire campaign on lies, and malicious attacks, slander and outright deformation when he's sitting over there trying to act elitist and above the rules claiming YOU signed papers and made promises ... oh wait McCain did those things too !"
Much to my dismay it didn't quite happen like that, but I had a hard time being able to focus on something other then McCains blinking and that tongue thing he's been doing. He reminds me of Voldemort, or of some semi snake like creature.
I think the debate went well, I think it was a bit more of a no holds barred kind of thing and I'd like to see these 2 just go at it on national television to see when one of them really drops the ball and see screws the pooch the hardest. But thats probably just the sadist in me.

Oooh a "caption this" kind of pic

In fact, he was doing that reptile-tongue thing a lot like one of the previous debates (reminded me of the Harry Potter bad guy that kept doing that - Barty Crouch).

Gripe? I just said it made him look like an old man because this is the second debate he felt it was necessary to mention someone being in the hospital. It was snark.
He can talk about his senior friends and their medical problems all day, I just said it makes him look OOOOOLD.

And?
He is old...
Besides, this is a former first lady and he was clearly just paying some respect to her and having people keep her in their prayers. Whats wrong with that?

There is no "and" the point is, man is he old.
ETA: It wasn't a serious discussion about anything, it was a quip, it was snark.

Re: Debates
Oh come on, you don't have grandparents that obsessively talk about their buddy's surgeries or their health issues? That was all I was making fun of. Maybe yours aren't "that" old yet, mine sure are.
Oh about Joe the Plumber. He's not really in that tax bracket nor is he looking to "buy" the plumbing business right not, he eventually wants to some day.

Bottom line on small businesses & McCain's claim:In an interview afterward with WTOL, Wurzelbacher acknowledged that he'd still like to eventually buy the plumbing company he works for but that he wouldn't yet be hit by higher taxes.
"I want to set the record straight: Currently I would not fall into Barack Obama's $250,000-plus," he said. "But if I'm lucky in business and taxes don't go up then maybe I can grow the business and be in that tax bracket - well, let me rephrase it. Hopefully, that tax won't be there."
Few owners are that lucky in business. In a member survey conducted late last year, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) found that only 14% of respondents said they had $200,000 or more in annual income.
As Tax Policy Center fellow Len Berman recently told Fortune Small Business: "Most owners of small businesses have small incomes."
The bottom line: McCain's claim only works by using an overly broad definition of what counts as a "small business" - and even with that definition, fewer than 2% of business owners would be hit by Obama's proposed rate increase. For those who are affected, the increase would be levied only on a part of their earnings, not all of them.

Mine are also obsessed with the Obituaries. They are always looking for people they know there and when they do find someone, they cut it out and put it in a scrap book.

Re: Debates
Joe the plumber, bet you didn't want all this attention.
“All contractors are licensed, and he does not have a license, either as a contractor or a plumber,” the union official said, citing a search of government records. “I can’t find that he’s ever even applied for any kind of apprenticeship, and he has never belonged to local 189 in Columbus, which is what he claims on his Facebook page.”

Re: Debates
He's also a registered Republican who may owe back taxes. Oh, and he's registered under a misspelling of his name so he'd be purged from the voter rolls if Republicans had their way. And to top it all off, the business he "plans to buy" doesn't really make a profit of 250k so he'd be getting a bigger tax cut under Obama than McCain... AND he doesn't even have any real plans to buy it any time soon. There's a lot of "ands" in that story.

The weird factoid in all this ...
Also, he's related to Charles Keating. I'm sure it's a coincidence, but isn't that fucking strange?Joe the Plumber has now had more press conferences than Sarah Palin.

Re: Debates
Actually he is not related, there are two Robert M. Wurzelbacher's. His relative is just a heavy GOP donor.
Robert M. Wurzelbacher, son-in-law of Keating, was 37 years old in 1991 when federal charges were filed against Keating. It appears that he has addresses in Phoenix and Coronado, CA.
The Robert M. Wurzelbacher of Milford, OH, a heavy donor to GOP candidates, is 83 years old and retired. They're not the same person.
Digging to see if this guy is a plant or a hypocrite is a good idea. But I think it's equally important to know the link before idle speculation.

I think he's going to turn out to be the next Jeff Gannon.
