Verizon will say anything to make you think its nothing on their end, imo.

Re: Wireless Card
I still think you're in over your head, but here's a couple quick thoughts.
1. It could be interference. Microwaves and some cordless phones use the same frequency. Even a neighbor's 2.4 GHz cordless phone could cause a problem. Not too likely but worth checking out. You should be able to move the computer closer to the router or set a different channel on the router to factor this out. Sometimes even rotating the computer/antennas a few inches can make a problem like this go away.
2. Here's what I would do: Come up with 2 laptops. One would help but two would be perfect. This is the "3 compass rule", which says that if two point in different directions, you don't know which one is right. The two laptops work fine with the wireless? It's the computer. All 3 computers have a problem with the wireless? It's the router hands down. Simple deductive reasoning - no need to fuck with the router or take anything apart.
3. Or just put the damn thing on the wire and be done with it. If it's just one desktop that's going to stay put, then there's probably not a big benefit to having a wireless network just for that one machine.
So if you determine that it's the computer then we can go from there.

Power line networks are awesome. Plug in and instant network that doesn't go down.

Re: Wireless Card
If Time Warner moves to a usage cap here I'm more than likely moving to Current (Cincinnati's power line network).

Re: Wireless Card
She has a laptop and I had it working when she first bought it, but it recently stopped. My sister also has a laptop, which I also originally had working and her wireless has stopped too. I didn't get to look at either of them. This would have been so much easier had I not been leaving that day. I'm states away so it's their problem now. Unfortunately, Verizon won't take up the slack to fix the wireless so they're stuck.
She had the computers wired originally. That too had stopped working for the attic office - both lines up there - and the family told me the Verizon tech told them the wires were damaged and wouldn't work. So now if she wants internet in her office she'll need to have wires installed all over again because our wireless is bust. Pain in the ass this is.

Re: Wireless Card
Seriously, tell her to buy two powerline adapters. Plug one into the wall where the modem is. Plug the other one in where the PC is. It just works.

I've never understood why there is even a button to turn wireless on/off in the first place.Select wrote:That stupid button needs a safety lock or a neon sign.

Re: Wireless Card
Saves a fair amount of battery power, and if you're plugged into a wired connection you probably don't want the wireless working too.Taxious wrote:I've never understood why there is even a button to turn wireless on/off in the first place.Select wrote:That stupid button needs a safety lock or a neon sign.
