In this case the Republicans used an address database obtained from a junk mail company to compare to voter registration records in 7 seven most democratic counties in the state and challenged all registrations that did not match. Victims of this tactic are required to submit notarized proof of address in order to be able to vote.The state Republican Party this week challenged the eligibility of 6,000 registered Montana voters in seven counties historically considered Democratic strongholds.

Republicans claim that they are just trying to prevent voter fraud and that they used non partisan methods for selecting the counties challenged. That it was just a coincidence that the counties challenged were the 7 most democratic counties in the state. In this case they managed to tag a true American hero in their sweep. A veteran of WWII and 10 time medal of honor winner.The suit specifically asks a federal judge to stop counties from sending out any more letters requesting a notarized proof of address.
