Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
I give it 6/10
I'm not a big fan of the repeated Star Wars storyline addons.
The graphics are decent, same with all games I've played on PS3.
Combat depends on what you're fighting. Again, it's a hack and slash Star Wars game, but the force abilities make some of the fights not as boring. Boss fights, depending on how well you can double jump behind them and hit lightning, can be a bit repetative. For the bosses I fought (cousin's game, so we were taking turns), I just needed to evade their special ability and get behind them.
There is a Training Room option that I personally think was more fun than the game itsself. Would be better if there were records of fasest, most damage done, least damage taken, etc. First few training options are learning the controls, then you go through and fight various things within the game in different rooms.
I would suggest waiting until the price drops or until it becomes available on rental to get this unless you are someone who must have Star Wars items.

I'd like to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my ass.

So far the force abilities are the only thing interesting. The story feels forced (no pun intended) - merely an excuse to get you to another big fight, so it doesn't feel very immersive. I got bored after an hour of play and haven't picked it back up since.

Final Fantasy 7 ruined console games for me. I liked the game so much that I just get bored with everything else, and no storyline (no, not even the predictableness of anything made by Blizzard) can compare.Harlowe wrote:So far the force abilities are the only thing interesting. Eh, I don't own any game consoles anymore so I go to my cousin's with a bottle of booze and we play video games and bullshit for a while.

And when the video games are over, they play Turaylon's favourite game: "Drink this and don't tell your mother where I touched you."

No way man, action figures are dolls, and dolls are for girls.

Turdsarelong touched my lil' alfalfa sprout while we both watched The 90's hit adaptation of The Little Rascals

In retrospect, FFVII is one of the most generic and often boring games ever created. You want a good FF title? Play VI or IX.Final Fantasy 7 ruined console games for me. FFIX? Are you serious? That game was the start of the Final Fantasy downfall. Cutesy Nip anime bullshit...In retrospect, FFVII is one of the most generic and often boring games ever created. You want a good FF title? Play VI or IX.

"Cutesy anime bullshit" or not, IX has a much more mature story and infinitely superior character development than VII.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
I disagree. The character development and story aren't any more mature, in my eyes. Hell, if anything they mirror FF7. The only advantage I give IX is that it had more time to develop characters. It was a good 20+ hours longer than FFVII, which gave you a better grasp of individual characters."Cutesy anime bullshit" or not, IX has a much more mature story and infinitely superior character development than VII.
I don't know how you can say it's more mature, though. The story is pretty much identical. Badass villain with superiority complex wants to take over the world in both games (I'm simplifying, I know). I'd argue Sephiroth is a much more developed character than the guy in IX, too.
How are the characters any more mature? What's the difference between Vivi and Clouds identity crises? Or Aeris/Dagger? Or the completely fucked up moral compasses of Barrett and Steiner (though the two are polar opposites).
Final Fantasy constantly rehashes the same character dynamics (hell Square in general...) it rarely changes or matures, from game to game. In fact, I'd say Final Fantasy II (VI) was just as mature as either of the two above and again featured many of the same character dynamics.
The only game I've found that really departs from the 'norm' in the FF series I'd say would be Tactics as far as story and character presentation/growth/dynamics. But then, I couldn't play FFX without vomitting long enough to get into that one.
