Level 80s in just a couple of weeks....

Seems Funcom screwed the pooch on the levelling gradient. Now, they're put in a crazy position of 1) developing more content for the "end-game" level 80 crowd, 2) developing the next set of game expansions that have to take into account a new level cap most likely, 3) dealing with all the broken quests, bugs, glitches and tunings that come with any new MMO release, 4) dramatically increasing content for the 40-60 levels (which obvisouly they thought they's have time to do after release before people entered those levels).
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

There are people within the max after a few weeks in every modern MMO release. Those people are never taken into account when they plan a game. The majority of players are in the 40's and 50's still and there's plenty of content. Black Ring Citadel is already in the game and was being tested and raided in the beta, there's no reason it won't be ready to go when there are players to attempt it.

I don't think anyone in EQ hit the first level cap of 50 for a few months.

This game has no appreciable death penalty, and that's a big reason. Travel time is short, there's another reason. Its easy to solo just about any class. You don't need money. Drops provide stat food so often its left on the ground to rot. Re spawn times are super fast. You can hyper-jump to other instances if your boss isn't up or the instance is too crowded.

It is waaaaayyyy to easy to level in this game.

Fast levelling isn't a problem as long as you treat it as the "introduction" to the game and then plan a very long gear-based group+raid content that's all geared for lv80s. By that I mean 4+ tiers of both group and raid, with at least 3-4 dungeons on each tier to keep people busy and not just waiting for the next spawn/instance timer/whatever. As much as people bitch about them, a certain amount of timesinks are good for an MMO.

In addition, if you don't active plan for the top 1% then you do lose the most vocal ambassadors for your game. The nice thing is you can bury them in crazy raiding timesinks if you're clever about it. :)

That's pretty much what I was looking for. I still find it pretty funny that these guilds have to "hide their makeup" when that's hardly the big secret about raiding anyway. In fact, anyone in any other guild in the same position already knows enough people in other guilds to get the info if they really want, and are more than capable of figuring out the same strats anyway.

I seriously doubt AoC is ready for that though. Yes an established game can use time sinks to keep the top 1% running around on their little gerbile wheels to keep them occupied. But let's face it......very few games that just launch are in any way prepared for raiding. EQ2 wasn't......WoW wasn't........VG wasn't.....and AoC isn't going to be. The stuff will be there......it might even let you kill it. But it will be an unitemized mess.

AoC probably has pretty rock solid play in the sub level 40 range.........workable stuff in the 40-60 range.......and hope your ass doesn't fall through the world in the level 60-80 range.

AoC is not very impressive at all. I'm playing it to kill free time and in 5 hours played I've got a level 14 Demonologist. /fingertwirl

On the other hand, Warhammer beta has been fun for the past 4 months! :)

Levels 1-20 are a tutorial, they are meant to fly by so you can get a feeling for many differernt classes without investing 3 years of your life. From 20-30, the pace slows down, but it's still a solo route most of the time. Once you hit 30 or so, you'll definiately want to group, because the solo quests don't give squat for experience.

I'll probably stick it out just to do it. I don't get a lot of time to play these days, so even though it only took me 5 hours to get 14, it took about 4 days of playing to do it, heh.

I had the exact opposite experience with group quests. The mobs you end up fighting are a lot harder and the quest as a whole takes a long time considering you have to find a group and wait for everyone to get there. I'd spend 3 hours doing something that only gives 60k xp (you can grind that in < 30 minutes depending on what class you are).

I got level 71 last week and am about to cancel my account. I've come to the conclusion that AoC is pretty fucking terrible and am going to play GW some more. Leveling is a joke (I was getting a level every 1-2 hours), death is a joke (I call spellweaving "porting"), and just when I start to have fun the game crashes or some weird bug occurs that breaks whatever I was doing.

I wish I could return it to Game Stop.

Sadly they released an incomplete game. Ridiculously incomplete. Still I'm having a fun time, the problem is you can tell they spent about 3/4's of there time working on the Tortage tutorial and 1/4 of the time on the rest of the game.
Should be a great game after about 6 months or polishing.

I barely ever dink around on aoc much anymore, but then again, I'm barely home to do it these days. Will probably dink around on it some more in my free time until Warhammer is launched. Then I'll be stuck tryin to decide if I wanna play War or check out the WoW expansion. Heh.
