this movie remains an enigma to me even after seeing it several times. so why see it so often? you may wonder.....the answer is simply that this is one of the most visually stunning movies i have ever seen. from the simple play of light on a foot to nebulae lit up from within, each frame of film takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary. for me, it is eye candy and something else which i can't quite define.
this is not a new movie (released in 2006) but it is new to me. it takes place in 3 different eras: late 15th century spain, today, and the future. hugh jackman and rachel weiss (jude law's love interest in enemy at the gates) make this tale almost beleivable. it is a love story first and foremost bound in time by the metaphysical. sounds cheesy i know but if you can get past the first few min where all you can say is WTF!! then i think you will like it if you havent already seen it.

I love watching the commentary on the DVD that explains alot of the consistent designs in that movie such as the moving towards light and the straight lines. The presentation really leaves the movie open the interpretation. You have no definitive answer to whether the 3rd time settings was the doctor in the future and the tree from his wife's grave or whether it was just the completion of the book they created.

Re: the fountain
I saw it in the theater. I knew it was wild and out there, so I went in with those expectations. I enjoyed it. I had no idea wtf was going on sometimes, but I got most of it. The Tree floating around in space is where I got a bit lost at times. I'm sure there's some deep Jungian analysis waiting to happen, but I don't have the time to research a bunch of mythology. Maybe someone else can cue me in: cliff notes version.
Rachel Weiss is hot, by the way. She's on my "I'd go gay for her" list.

The tree in space was Hugh Jackman's character who defeated aging after the death of his wife decided to uproot the tree and take it to the underworld Xibalba (nebula) where it will be reborn.
I love the movie because it take a deeper look what death really is and what it means to live. Rather then death being an end it sees it as another beginning.

I figured Rachel Weisz was much better known for her role in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns...
