Is originality a pre-requisite for beauty?

This implies only educated people are able to appreciate art. I vehemently reject that notion. I know of people with several degrees who have no appreciation for art (if you want to limit "beauty" to only art), and I've seen people with a 6th grade education openly weep when seeing a Monet for the first time, because they were profoundly moved by the experience (a real Monet, not a copy).

Rather than an education being an indication of one's ability to feel the emotional impact of a piece of art, I think it's the state of one's mind that allows for this, a level of openess and higher awareness. Awareness and openess have nothing to do with education, but everything to do with self-illumination.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

You took what I said wrong. I didn't mean the "truly educated" as in those who are formally educated. I meant that I believe you're in a higher state of intellect if you can take your own emotional reaction and combine/compare/contrast it with a taught or intended reaction. If you understand both, then you really are in a higher state of learning.

Blah how come no one paid attention when I said that same thing =p Actually no thats not what I said, formal education doesn't constitute a higher intellect, however I DO agree with the last part of the sentence ;)

You people realize you can teach yourself the intended or "formal" reaction. Get off the formal education issue, that's not what I'm saying! >.<

Shut your cunt mouth or I'll come over there and fuck start your head!

Better?

Arethena's explanation makes a lot of sense to me. I wish they would hurry up and invent the genetics altering spray like they have in Crichton's Prey.

I still thought that was beautiful, even though I've seen Way of the Gun.

Genetics has very little to do with this. It is the sum total of your experiences that create your context. Your biggest problem is that you are an asshole.
