The Kennedy administration just called this activity "Gentlemen's Night"

Kind of hard to take you seriously when you impugn others for ad hominem attacks, when you engage in that very same behavior... in the very same post.Klast Brell wrote:How can you breathe with your head that far up your ass?

However, I again note: Democrats are not rallying around Spitzer the way Republicans rallied around Vitter.

I love Embar's response.
"Would you have the COURAGE to stand by someone who broke their sacred vows?"
No wonder Vitter got a standing O.

Re: NY Gov. Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
There are two vows taken, one by each person in the marriage. And I think it takes incredible courage to try and stay in a marriage when a spouse fails himself or herself, and turns the marriage upside down. It's easy to keep your vow when times are good. The real test of your vow is when shit hits the fan.Partha wrote:I love Embar's response.

Adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it. Nice to know you're a quitter though, Partha.

lol..
standing by your man when he's broke or loses an arm is one thing, but leaving him after he cheats on you is not quitting.

Sure it is. Just because a spouse breaks a vow, doesn't mean you're entitled to break yours. The vows are mutually independent of one another.superwalrus wrote:lol..

Re: NY Gov. Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
Personally, I wouldn't fault someone for making either choice in the situation that their spouse had been unfaithful. It goes without saying that it's a shitty situation no matter what you do, and facing either the reality of divorce or rebuilding the relationship takes a great deal of courage.
Now, a spouse that makes a habit of cheating? Drop that slut.

Man who spends one night with a hooker? Might be redeemable.
Man who spends a reported 80k on hookers? Not so much.
But glad to see Embar thinks the little woman should just shut her eyes and soldier on. Lemme guess, for the sake of the kids, right?

You should stay together for the sake of the children. But as soon as the kids are grown and gone, I wouldn't be surprised if she files for divorce and takes all his stuff in the process.

Re: NY Gov. Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
I strongly disagree with this statement, Fingle. If a couple decides to stay together, it should be because they want to preserve the marriage. I feel a damaged marriage, full of unresolved bitterness, mistrust and pain, will only damage the children.Finglefinn wrote:You should stay together for the sake of the children. As for Partha (I understand now why he's still living in his mom's basemet), it's not about soldiering on. Its about looking deep into yourself, and deciding if you have the courage and strength to try and repair the marraige. I'll bet you that Silda (just like every other betrayed spouse) didn't stop loving her husband when he told her what he'd done. Humans aren't like that. You simply can't turn those types of deep emotions off like a switch.
Have done any research on infidelity? Did you know that most marriages survive it? Some actually become stronger. Do some reading about what drives infidelity, and how spouses cope with it. I think you'll be surprised. It upends a lot of long-held beliefs people have about why people marry, and why they stay married in the face of such incredible betrayal and pain.

Oh, and notice I said spouse. This isn't gender specific. My feelings apply to husbands who have suffered an infidleity too.Partha wrote:Man who spends one night with a hooker? Might be redeemable.
