Team Fortress 2

Post by Freecare Spiritwise »

Anyone else as addicted to TF2 as I am?

It has it's flaws, like the redundant computer voices that stop being funny after a few days. I've played so much with the wife sitting next to me at her desk that every morning when I wake up she mimics the game ("FIRE FIRE - I AM ON FIRE" or "The enemy has taken your intelligence!")

Being a slow, lame old dude, the best way I compete is by playing demo man or soldier on frag-fest maps like mach2 and dustbowl - mostly the Q-clan servers. There's no greater feeling than having 3 crit rockets take out most of the enemy team in one shot. I get a lot of OMG GAY CRITS but spamming the enemy with things that go boom is a valid strategy. I like playing sniper, but I'm too streaky - I either totally dominate the other team, or totally choke (more likely).

...so if anyone wants to snipe me, my handle is Racer-X, and most evenings I'm on Q-clan's 24/7 mach2 or dusbowl playing a soldier.

Make mine pyro!

Racer-X, huh? Think we've killed each other a few times; I'm Deadbody when I drop in there.

Yeah, I think I remember you from dustbowl. Pyros are the coolest class, and the only one I usually run from (or at least back off and rocket from a distance). The wife likes to annoy me: "Pssst - you're on fire"... no fuckin' shit.

I played one for a couple hours last night, and it goes against my instincts to rush the enemy. Good pyros burn you and bail. They also guard the sentries against spies, and I don't do defense very well, so at the end of my run I had fallen like 10 places.

I'm getting better at sniper, at least on mach2. I had about 4 hours where the enemy was scared to poke their heads out of their base lol and sat at the top spot the whole time. Then a better sniper came along and did the same to us. At least as a soldier there's nobody I can't (eventually) kill. Miss me + crit rocket = dead sniper.

The Q-clan servers seem to have the best players. Even with 100's of hours on mach2, sometimes my average lifespan will be a few seconds. Good times.

Oh, you can rush. You just have to realize you're going to fail a lot more often than you succeed. The successes are sweet, though, like when you can burn down both medics healing the heavy that kills you in SD, or when you can get everyone flying away from you at top speed and your friends behind can pick em off while they're all focused on the OMGPYRO!

my comp is somewhat old so I mostly hang out in 2fort servers and defend my sewers/take over enemy sewers as thats where my framerate is best. Most players in this game are quite easy to kill, I dont think many of them have much experience with the fortress genre. I supose I will like tf2 better when I upgrade and can go outside my base and reasonable engage in the acrobatics that made previous tf games so much fun to me. Rocket jumps ae slow but with a good framerate I imagine I will be able to do some great things with the sticky pipes. No bunnyhopping/gren jump really sucks though.

Come to the [-Q-] 24/7 2Fort server if you like 2Fort. The Q servers have the best quality players and the best hardware for their servers. And they're always full. They're free to play, but donators don't wait in line (there's usually a long wait) and can team swap at will.

I've since changed my primary to sniper, made a lot of friends, and joined a large clan - the koopa troupas. We're the biggest TF2 clan that I know of with 79ish members.

Sniper is such a fun class. A good sniper can own the classic sniper maps like 2fort and mach4. It's just sick.

I've played more demo too, and it's a wicked class once you learn some of the tricks. Put your stickies on the high traffic areas on the ceiling or around corners out of sight and wait for some unsuspecting sucker (or group of suckers) and blow them all to hell. Very demoralizing...
