White devil fantasy

I've mentioned before that I work graveyard, but I don't think I've posted that it's a hotel. I'm a night auditor while I do some prep work for graduate school.

Last night I had to play the eviction card, which is something I don't do very often. The guest was black and I'm white. His defense was "Oh, they was some white people partying and you didn't axe them to leave!"

(I'm not including the accent out of spite, that's really what he said)

At first I thought he was joking, but realized the guy was dead serious. When I called him on it, he claimed he wasn't bringing race into the discussion. I'm not sure how he wasn't.

Yeah, well. I didn't get any complaints about the "white people" down the hall. He even tried to say he called the desk to complain (nice try, I've been at the desk the whole night except now because people complained about him).

If you watched the show Black/White, you might remember during some of the role reversals they went shopping. When approached by associates, the black male said it was because they assumed he was going to shoplift, while the white male said it was good customer service.

Sometimes I think it's easier to write confrontations off as racism issues. I should have just evicted him for calling me a racist so that he could live out whatever white devil fantasy was playing in his head.

There's no good way to deal with people playing the race card at work, is there?

Good luck. Attitudes like that start really young. Some friends were renting a temporary place during the summer, there was a little neighborhood girl (5 or 6) who would come over. They were nice and gave her drinks, some food, and let her play with the cats. She was trying to mess with the computer and when they told her no, she said, "It's because I'm black, right?" My friends were horrified. She also kept referring to differences between them and her and kept attributing it to skin color. I would love to hear some tips on this too. Good luck :\

Shitheads are shitheads, no matter how much melanin they have in their skin. Shitheads will say or do anything to get what he or she wants, and them blame everyone but themselves when things go against them. This guy's reflex blame reaction is the race card. He's learned to use it because it probably gets him results. The proper response would have been "If you think you've been treated unfairly, you may of course contact hotel management. However, if you you do not leave the hotelimmediately, I will ask the police for assistance." Which is probably something similar to what you did say, because you happen to be a thoughtful and intelligent person.

Racism has once again reared its silly head in America today with Obama's victory in Iowa. While I was watching the news coverage of it there was a panel of talking heads sitting there discussing it and updating with reports. There were like three white people and one black guy. The white people were all talking about Obama's win in political terms and how it will affect things, etc, how he was picked because of his change message, etc. When the black guy talked he started going on and on how it was a victory for black people since a black man had won, how the incident was such a historic occasion. I felt bad for him because his whole life he would be trapped in a shell where he initially saw things as black and white. I rarely even consider race in my day. Sure, when I see news about a black criminal or thigns like that I say "damn monkeys" but I don't go around the day thinking about how to suppress black people. I just think that if black people let it go, there wouldn't be anymore serious race issues.

Out of all of the different races that went to my schools when I was growing up - I'd only get suspended/expelled/demonized/counciling for fighting with the black kids. It'd be a call to the parents if it were a white boy.

I had a 'debate' yesterday with a global coworker from arg. We were talking about their significant other being in the US. I said, that must be hard with them being in another continent.. This is where I get reprimanded about the americas is one continent. so we go back and forth about 7 or 5 . I then point out that wikipedia points out that france, spain, portugal and all of south america is taught that the world has only 5 continents. This fueled them to tell me that that is a racist statement. Now, is that truely a racist statement, or someone dropping the race card cause I would not agree with their belief?
