Login Problems

Post by Ddrak »

If you try to log in, are successful and yet get bumped back to the index as not logged in then the cookies for the board are messed up on your browser. To delete them, do the following:

Firefox:

1. Go to Tools/Options.
2. Select Privacy.
3. Click on "Show Cookies"
4. Search for "brellrants"
5. Highlight everything that has "brellrants.net" as the site.
6. Hit delete.

IE on Vista:

1. Close IE. Every instance of it. Go to Task Manager and kill any iexplore.exe you see there too!
2. Open Windows Explorer.
3. Go to "C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files"
4. Type in brellrants in the search box
5. Delete every cookie that shows up.

IE on XP

1. Close IE. Every instance of it. Go to Task Manager and kill any iexplore.exe you see there too!
2. Open Windows Explorer.
3. Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files"
4. Look for "cookie:<your user name>@www.brellrants.net..." and delete it.

Note on IE: If that doesn't work, just delete all your cookies from Tools/Options in IE. That's a little drastic but will work.

Did this and I'm still occasionally kicked out of login.

This is how to fix the particular problem that happens every time you try to log in, not random kickouts.

Yes, it did correct that particular problem. Maybe the second one will go away if I try it again.

IE instructions not correct

Post by superwalrus »

I am logged on through Mozilla but I prefer to use IE, but when I followed the instructions in the post directing me to C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files ... I could not find it.. after my user name there is no AppData, just something called Application Data, and there is no Local dir in there at all.

They were from Vista. I didn't have an XP box handy so I kinda made it up.

Another way is inside IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, click the "Settings" button in "Browsing History" then click "View Objects". That will take you directly to the correct folder.

For what it is worth, I have had this problem too.

For no good reason at all, I blame Relbeek.

I manually typed in my name and password. That seemed to've circumvented the nefarious Hobbit's schemes....for now.

I have a different sort of login problem with my Khoren Stonefall account, the real one. I get this cryptic error:

It was not possible to convert your password when updating this bulletin board’s software. Please request a new password. If you continue to have problems please contact the Board Administrator.

And then when I do get my password reset and reactivated, it gives me the same error again.

I suspect that Barkona is some way involved in this affair.

Khoren

I'm not having problems, but I have a suggestion/idea for you Dd and didn't know where else to put it.

If you have some extra time, I would really enjoy a "bookmarks" feature on this board. Often times, someone posts a link or names a useful program that I'd like to be able to find later. Time goes on and I can't find the thread again. Maybe I just suck at the search function, but I never have much luck with that either. It would be cool if there was a way to star or bookmark threads to an account on brellrants.

Dunno, Tax. I had a quick look around and couldn't see anything specifically like that for phpbb3. You can always just bookmark them yourself - the actual URL for the posts is static.
