Re: Sorry Romney
There's a big difference between offical church doctrine, and fable. Surely you can grasp that.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

I can grasp that.
I of course declare it along with other branches of the abrahamaic religions to be a fable, but then again I'm an atheist. But who are you to declare Eastern Orthodox holy tradition to be a fable? They believe in redemption through jesus just like you. They even have answers for your questions about the afterlife of babies.

Klast - Its not me that declares sacred tradition as fable. And honestly, "fable" is prbably too misleading of a word. A better word (or phrase) would be "informed speculation". There is a big difference between dogma, that which you are REQUIRED to believe, and sacred tradition, which you are ALLOWED to beleive, but the belief isn't required.Klast Brell wrote:I can grasp that.

I make no judgements on the Eastern Orthodix Church. If you haven't been paying attention in this thread, I have been challenging certain tenets of faith. I have been asking others to defen their beliefs, and they really can't. For every person, what they believe in is intensely personal, no matter what faith, or non-faith, one ascribes to. People who are aetheists can be just as whack-job crazy about their non-belief as radical muslims are about Allah. Doesn't make either of them right.
And in my thought, it doesn't make either of them wrong. In fact, in the Catholic "tradition", only God knows your mind, and if you truely beleive that what you do is just, right, and inthe service of God, guess what, you pass GO, collect $200 and enter heaven. This applies to people we deem righteous, as well as axe murderers. What you do is irrelevant. What you feel about you do is.

It's not an affront to a religion to not consider it the "vanilla mainstream" of christian religions in the US. But you can't have a discussion here about anything without someone feeling affronted on behalf of an entire group because they magically have personal knowledge of every topic, group or situation that gets brought up.

I wonder what'll happen to religion in general once we make contact with a more advanced species. (omg if EVAR)

Didn't your mama ever tell you not to tango with a carrot?

Depends on if they eat all of us, I would think.
Can you imagine what we would do if we stumbled upon a world full of new and exotic deer, bison and other trophy game?
