Harry Potter 4

Post by superwalrus »

This has been said before, because there was a thread when this movie came out, but Harry 4 has been playing on HBO a ton this week and I just can't stop myself anymore. I saw Harry Potter 4 in the theater, but I can NOT shake this. In the movie, Harry doesn't say shit about Lucius (aka the bad guy from the Patriot) being a Voldemort follower. I know the author mentioned it in the book, but the movie's lapse is unacceptable. WHOLLY unacceptable.

I've never read the books but I would think it would just be Harry's word against Lucius, and Lucius has a lot more clout with the Ministry.

Don't sweat it, it's not worth the frustration

Hrm, I'll phrase it like this. The movies are illustrations to me, they're not telling the story. A picture can tell a story on its own, but it can't reach the depth of the novel it's based off of.

I've read all the HP books, but I never really got into the movies.

However, the 4th one was playing a lot (on what I guess is our frenchy version of your HBO :P) so I decided to give it a try.

I was disappointed. It just didn't entertain me like the books did, simply because our imagination doesn't have the financial and technical bounds that movies must work with.

They really need more than one movie per book to cover everything. Chances are, there's a snipped piece of film on someone's cutting room floor with that portion in it, but it was cut for whatever reason.

I view it like LOTR. These aren't necessarily canon, but tributes to the books themselves. I enjoy the movies. =)

They left a whole bunch of stuff out of the 4th movie, and with the 5th movie actually being shorter while the book is a few hundred pages longer, you can be sure there's a bunch left out in the next one too.
