Open Beta begins for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes January 5th.

On January 16th, 2007 the Official Vanguard Forums will close.

We're excited to provide this opportunity before launch for the community and our Affiliated Sites to adjust and familiarize themselves with one another. The Affiliated Fansites are dedicated to serving the community and its needs and will be the primary source for information and discussion about Vanguard; while the program will change and grow this goal will remain the same.

We will provide a seamless network that promotes an active community without the hassle of finding information when you need it. The center of this community will be the Vanguard Community Site, http://www.vanguardsoh.com; this site will continue to provide constant updates and links to the discussion on the sites that concern the community. In addition to updating the site with links and news we will provide the community with tools to find the Fansite that is right for them. Pretty sure VG is launching on or around the 29th. They're closing access to the official forums as a transition, I'd guess.

Sigil does not have an issue with database sites, so long as the data is collected through community members and not via data mining. (automatically sniffing and decoding packets. etc.)

We only have a ban on sites that are owned and operated by the Secondary Market (gold/plat sellers).

The negative impact is not from what they do, it is from who owns them and their interests in this industry. By going to any site that is owned by those who sell money in Vanguard you are supporting the sale and destruction of the server economies.

For example RPG Holdings, IGE, Zam Networks which includes Allakhazam, OGaming, WoWInterface.com, EQInterface.com, VGInterface.com, etc. are all owned and operated by the same individuals.

We will also not support any fansite that makes revenue from Secondary Market advertisements.

We just pre-ordered 2 copies from Amazon, which comes with that scroll buff thingy and lets you play 3 days early.

Hopefully it will have that same magic that EQ had before the PoP expansion.

Sentimental tidbit: I remember a friend calling me on the phone, saying "Dude, login and get your ass to the nexus, Nadia is going to MGB KEI in 3 minutes !!!"

Is there an unofficial server yet for old Brellians?

No server list exists yet that I know of. Probably won't find out until they open the 3-days-before thing.

The other question is whether you actually want to be on the same server as old Brellians. ;)

- I used to have a series of hotkeys for doing a 10 minute count down

was fun times

i dont think theres been any targetted servers yet

I'll be trying Vanguard but not at launch, need to get some cash for a better vidcard

Well I saw Subtle/Pharma posting on the VG forums a while back. If I end up on the same server as Mr. and Mrs. Douchbag I may have to quit.

We're just going to install it on our desktops / laptops, see how it runs, and decide what to upgrade from there.

Still deciding on classes. Supposedly there's no holy trinity, but the class descriptions almost contradict that. Looks to me like you still need a melee, healer/rezzer and a mezzer. Since the most fun we've ever had in a video game was in EQ with me boxing a necro/cleric and her boxing a beastlord/chanter, so we're thinking that VG might be the game that brings back the room full of computers.

Does anyone know if VG has an auto-follow feature? D&D online didn't implement it because they wanted to discourage boxing, but all that did was alienate the players.

open beta will close on January 23 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

In anticipation of the January 30th launch of the fantasy-themed MMORPG, the servers will be shut down, and all beta character profiles will be transferred to a test server. The test server will open after launch with timing to be determined.

For those who have pre-ordered Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, early access will be granted to the live servers before the official release date. More information regarding the early access will be released shortly.

I'm betting they got forced into 1/30 by the fact Vista is releasing 1/31 and they didn't want to double their test load. ;)
