Buying a laptop on eBay?

With my new job requiring a good bit of traveling, I've been toying with the idea of buying a laptop. I've been looking at them on eBay recently, and it seems there are some incredible deals there but it just seems to fishy, and not sure if I like the idea of a lack of warranty. Was just hoping to get a general concensus of what you guys thought about buying laptops on eBay or another place where I can grab a decent laptop for around $1500 that will also allow for some gaming.

I purchased a laptop for my sister in the 1500-2000 range from Dell, and it plays all the games my desktop can.

for games go dell, for durabiltiy lenovo (formerly ibm).
