Final Fantasy XII demo.
For those of you that've played it, what did you think? (I played it on the Dragon Quest VIII disc. I'm reserving my DQ feedback until I can spend some additional time in the game.)
My response to the Final Fantasy 12 demo surprised me:
For the first 5 minutes, I was confused and very skeptical. My feeling was akin to when a company changes something that was previously great and your first reaction isn't good. "What the hell did they do to this?!"
But after I played through both sections of the demo, I realized that I really enjoyed it. The mobs were awesome, I loved the texture of the T-rex. And despite my initial reaction, I think the new combat system is something I look forward to adapting to.

Reminded me of MMO style gameplay, has potential to be good - although I'm a big fan of turn based strategy in traditional console RPGs, I'd say it has a shot to work well.
I certainly will miss it (I really like FFX's combat system minus how simple the game was - the turns and such). But I can't say I'm not a fan of MMO style, considering I play MMOs all the time. So I'll enjoy it either way!

I'm right at Sin, but I haven't taken the time to go back and level my characters up more to beat him.
I thought the story line was pitiful.

Never worked on Legendary's, never got the sisters.
I've seen them though, on a friends game... He hated the storyline too.

I liked the combat system but it could have been better (like everyone shoulda got xp so you didnt have to rotate ppl in against crap enemies) and I didnt like the shere grid.
The story was standard fare, I thought the world was pretty cool overall. And I really liked the sadness of the main theme and the hopelessness of your quest, which is kinda different from the normal WERE GONNA SAVE THE PRINCESS AND THE WORLD HELL YA theme.
I like that one, 6 and 8 the best. 8 is cool because you can get no encounter like 2 hrs into the game !

I actually thought the grid was kinda neat - something different than just levels levels and more levels. You can kind of customize each player as to how you want to specialize them - especially when you get to the phase of the game where you are ending your trek to Zanarkand and have the ability to unlock all the blockers.keldo wrote:I liked the combat system but it could have been better (like everyone shoulda got xp so you didnt have to rotate ppl in against crap enemies) and I didnt like the shere grid.
That's why I liked the story. It wasn't exactly the same rehash like they did in 9 and the previous ones.keldo wrote:The story was standard fare, I thought the world was pretty cool overall. I cried at the end of FFX and FFX-2.
I'm a sappy ass hopeless romantic.
For the record, I loved the story to them both and even though X-2 is campy as fuck, it gets really fun later on and the ending is worth the annoyances.
Via Infinito was a blast.

X-2 was crap, but it was good crap.. I did like it better than X, but only because I beat it and saw the end in like 25 hours.
