Clinton vs. Obama

Post by Flunkie »

Is there anyone else but me that can't wait to see this turn into a battle royal for the Dem nomination? Neither one appears up to the task of beating down the other, yet that is how things are done these days. They are going to have to get down and dirty.

Obama is like the new kid on the block, a media darling, and is asked for his opinion on a wide variety of subjects that pop up on the sense o clock news which he has no more experience than the average Joe. I mean Obama as a military tactician or foreign policy expert? Give me a fucking break, and ask my next door neighbor instead...

Clinton is the obvious favorite and I can imagine her not saying a bad word about any rival candidates unless they draw first blood. The question is can a woman that said that she was not some Tammy Wynet standing by her man and then acted like a Tammy Wynet standing by her man for the last 15 years be elected? Give me a women president, yes, but for God sake not her. Not a carpet bagging liberal that checks which way the wind is blowing before making an opinion about anything, not a woman that views politics as the end of the means instead of the means to an end, not a woman that would sell her own party out at the drop of a hat if it meant victory.

I'm not looking forward to 11/2008, but I must admit I'm going to enjoy the run up, I hope...

Hillary's problem is exactly the same one Seward had in 1860. That doesn't mean Obama equates to Lincoln, however - he's acting more like Salmon Chase atm.

I hope they both run on the same ticket so the Republicans can win in the biggest landslide ever.

Actually, Hillary's taste for human flesh may be her downfall in the primary.

I think all the conventional wisdom about race and gender are bullshit.

Obama can win the Presidency. So can Hillary. Either one has a great shot.

Combine them on one ticket and I think it is a no brainer.

Hillary/Obama would be one hell of a combination... *if* they can avoid tearing strips off each other in the primary. It comes down to whether Obama is a good enough politician to know he can't win the primary and team with the person who can.

A woman/black combination for President isn't a bad idea. Last I looked, white men were in a minority.

The only GOP candidate that can beat Hillary is McCain. Hillary+Obama vs McCain would be one hell of an interesting battle given their politics are actually very similar.

I know, but the nation is very finely balanced on Dem/GOP. Doesn't take a huge influence to swing it either way and with a female/black pairing you could well find the influence that it would take.

On the flip side, it could well cause enough of a swing the other way to doom them too. I'll make no pretense of thinking the US doesn't have a lot of people that wouldn't be comfortable with a woman president and a black VP.

I would not be uncomfortable with a woman president... I would be uncomfortable with Hillary Clinton as president.

Why do people like her so much? I don't get it. She got cheated on in front of the entire nation and instead of doing the right thing (divorcing his ass) she decided to stick with him to run for the Senate. She basically traded her dignity for a spot on the Senate in my opinion. If she had divorced Bill Clinton I wouldn't hate her, I wouldn't vote for her, but I wouldn't hate her. She is a bad role model for all women everywhere. She has no self-respect, just political aspirations.

But Hillary running for president, you guys aren't serious right? A lot of people deep down hate her guts. She is the most divisive politcal leader since Abraham Lincoln.

And Obama? A black guy as president? Sure thats fine, but I think a lot of people in America would ZOMG RUN FOR THE HILLS if it happened. But Obama? He's a celebrity politician. He sprouted up in 2004 seemingly out of nowhere. I would vote for a black guy for president if he had a solid political career and a message. Right now it seems like Obama won the media lottery. What has he really done? The media just decided one day to start saying he was the new thing, when he really hasn't done much.

Am I the only one to think this about Obama? I don't get it. What has he done? Can you guys not see through the media hype or did I just simply miss something.

Thanks,

Walrus

Hillary is probably no more divisive than W (well, at least the neocon machine behind W). Hell, Rush is a lot more divisive than Hillary and he still gets good ratings. ;)

As for self-respect, lots of marriages survive infidelity. I wouldn't put so much on that really. It could be used as a political strength more than anything because it would damn hard for an opponent to directly attack her on it without smearing themselves with the whole Whitewater debacle.

As for Obama, he has so little time in the Senate that there's relatively little to be said against him. He knows how to run a good PR campaign (don't for a second believe that the media is hyping him, he's sending plenty of juicy stuff to the media), and that's basically what is required to be President these days. If the only attack ad the opposition could run was "he's inexperienced" then that's easily countered, especially if he takes the VP ticket.

Obama is already a few years older than Jack Kennedy was when he was elected in 1960. I don't know that he is too inexperienced.

Hillary however is tainted in my eyes. She is too much of a rallying flag for the republican party.

Obama's been essentially 'hyped' since the speech he gave at the 2004 convention, which was one hell of a piece. Not my ideal candidate, but a hell of a lot better than Hillary.

Now, if you could put him as VP on a ticket with Wes Clark, I'd be a really happy man.

Actually, I think its more on point to say that being a general doesn't necessarily make for a good or poor President. Some generals have made excellent Presidents, others haven't. Here's the list, and you decide. Pay careful attention to the first name.

George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor, U.S. Grant, James Garfield and Dwight Eisenhower.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.
