Turbine is making it. It is going to be.......interesting. There will be no exp for individual kills, but rather for completing quest/adventure segments. Not sure I will play it. That is a big departure from traditional MMO's.

They are taking beta/alpha signups now but honestly I'm not expecting anything special. Let me remind you that Turbine made AC2 and how successful that was....

BTW for you DnD hardcores, DnD Online will not be following the rules.

It's hardly D&D then is it?

That would be like making Rolemaster online then finding that 99% of the population wasn't either dead or in hospital recovering from broken limbs from E crits.

The big outcry on the forums atm is all about 'spellpoints' which is a system that will entirely replace memorization and resting. Consider it a vague version of mana if you will, you can read the primary threads below.

Well, you don't really "sleep" or "rest" for 8hrs in a MMO (though it would be an "interesting" game mechanic to put in) but giving everyone mana points instead of spell slots breaks the core D&D feel and essentially makes everyone a sorcerer. One of the key parts to wizarding in PnP is choosing the right spells every day.

I liked the suggestion that said to use slots but each spell slot should just have an independant recharge timer. Preserves the core D&D feel (selecting a new spell means you have to wait for a new recharge) and allows transition to a MMO environment where no one sleeps.

I guess they just went down the path of least resistance. I bet they don't implement geas or disintegrate properly either, especially when mobs cast them.

I've been playing this weekend...I guess The Husband downloaded it early. It's fun!!! Only a few bugs, so far. Sort of like EQ2, but not. Erm...sorry I'm not much help. I've been playing for five hours straight, though, so I guess that tells you something. Addictive!
