I'm rapidly losing faith that Sony ever seriously concerned itself with server integrity. Besides, between the /claim and /testbuff mechanisms, they already have all the basics in place that they'd need to make custom-built supercharacters on demand.

If I had to take a guess based on the trends I've seen, I'd say EQ2 is almost certain to have more active players than EQ1 at the moment, and quite possibly more subscriptions as well.
It appears I was wrong, at least if MMOGCharts latest update and numbers from their "inside sources" are correct. Sony seems to be inflating EQ2 numbers and deflating EQ numbers in their press releases.

EQ1 numbers, while having declined, are still higher than they were a year ago

There will still be a noticeable difference in the quality of playstyle of someone who has spent time and done research on the development of their character. If they're any good, little things will always distinguish purchased characters from ones who were actually played.

I think if it did come to Sony creating prepackaged characters for people to buy, that it would be utilized by veteran players more than newbies. Most people who've played EQ for a while are comfortable with more than the main class they play.
