Just bopped by the EQ Live website and saw this article titled "Veteran Rewards". Sounds like an idea with promise, though I bet a lot of newer players will be pissed that they can't get some of the abilities right away.
so lemmie get this straight. 5 years of EQ and the best Sony can give me is.... The player is surrounded by a beautiful blue/white glow as they gain double experience for half an hour every 24 hours.
Funniest part of this screw up was they crashed the CT server while patching in this stupid ass excuse to get people to subscribe for another 12 months. (Server down during prime time, this pops up... ya sure ill re register for another year) Wtf.
If your easily offended stop reading here ---------------------------------------------------
SOE is the only corporation other than Microsoft that has managed to open their mouths with possible good news then stuff it full of dick because they screwed it up.

Illusion of Apathy on Cazic-Thule
In honor or our 6th year of dumbing down your game play experience, SOE has decided to give you a new host of silly ass abilities. Since we have not been effective enough at playing the game for you, as we have nearly perfected in EQ2, we offer this silly nonsense to you out of pity.
Fortunately we waited a while before making our stupid, unlike every other MMO out that made sure they accomplished that from the start. We will continue to hold true to "The Vision" (TM) until Sigil (and that rat, traitorous bastard, Brad McQuaid) finishes Vanguard. Then we will offer EQ1 + Kunark for free for a year in the tried and true tradition of Anarchy Online so that consolidated server populations will jump to unbelievable numbers. Only when it takes 4 hours to cross West Commons on an Intel Extreme Gamers Edition 4.0Ghz CPU with 4G of RAM and an 768Mb ATI Radeon 9998TI PCI(e), will we consider terminating EQ. At this time we will be sure to license several shitty companies, like goDaddy, to host a couple legacy servers, so that those of you with no sense at all can continue to enjoy the game as it plays itself.
Thank you, and we apologize for the inconvenience.
1 -- Lesson of the Devoted: The player is surrounded by a beautiful blue/white glow as they gain double experience for half an hour every 24 hours.
2 -- Infusion of the Faithful: Usable once every 24 hours, the player enjoys maximum resistances and statistics and a faster run speed for 15 minutes while he glows brightly with power.
3 -- Chaotic Jester: Summons a Bristlebane puppet that persists for 15 minutes. Usable once every 24 hours, Bristlebane will randomly cast various spells that provide benefits or minor penalties.
4 -- Expedient Recovery: Usable once per week, all the player’s corpses are summoned to their feet and given 100% experience resurrection.
5 -- Steadfast Servant: Summons a creature that casts healing spells upon the player and others nearby. Lasts for half an hour and is usable once every 24 hours.
6 -- Staunch Recovery: Usable once every 3 days, the player is fully healed with health, mana, and endurance fully restored.
7 -- Intensity of the Resolute: Increases the power of the player’s abilities and heals substantially for 5 minutes once every 24 hours while the player is surrounded by a glow of energy.
So if this is your fifth year then theoretically you should be good for anything up through Steadfast Servant. I especially like Infusion of the Faithful and Expedient Recovery. Though I doubt many will be able to use it at first, Intensity of the Resolute sounds like a handy raiding ability.
Looks good to me. I date back to 99 as well and am looking forward to the new abilities. Certainly nothing overpowering but they will definitely help me with some of the more extreme stuff I do.
I do agree with Xaber though. Having the server crash last night and then this announcement (and I think the shared server Cazic-Brell name) appear after the crash was annoying as hell.
Its gonna take more than a swashbuckler's sword to bring me back. Mabye if they paid several cute girls to dance on the screen in the buff for free I might consider it, but no.
Energy is neither created or destroyed, so it is fairly safe to assume the particles that make up your body will exist forever. We are all eternal.
EQ is old hat left for those who just can't seem to let go. This game is like a 69 camero, fucking cool to take around the block a few times and down the straight away a couple times a summer.
The interesting study to me currently is EQII and the destruction of the player base in less than a year. This has to be one of the biggest dissapointments in online gamming ever.
Hell, I wish they'd do something similar in SWG. The only rewards you get are one time reward items. Like a Sorosuub Yacht Ship.. Resource Crates... Mini Replicas of stuff to go in your house, or Anti Decay Kits... I'd rather have abilities like that.
