Phantom of the Opera movie

Post by Ickhor »

This film is completely amazing. I've seen the broadway version many times, and the movie did a great job in recreating it.

Find a clean theatre with good sound, and go see this movie now. Seeing it on DVD will absolutely not compare at all. The previews on TV do it absolutely no justice at all.

Incredible, probably the best three hours I've ever spent in a (movie) theatre. Not one dull moment.

I will second the recommendation here. It is a very good adaption, I wouldn't go as far to say great, but a fan would enjoy it and someone unfamiliar isn't going to yawn through like your typical first time theater experience.

Nothing can compare to watching the dude from Benson running around singing while my girlfriend sat next to me crying cause I told her I wanted to break up with her right before we went to the show. I was gonna wait til after the show to tell her, but she just had to nag it out of me.

I hope to see it this weekend. I've seen the broadway version MANY times and always loved it. The soundtrack for the movie however kind of sucks. I have the NY company soundtrack from the theatre version from 1990 and its amazing in comparison. Not sure if its the musicans or the fact that its more movie like. Cant wait to see it thought.

It's fine. I also love the 1990 soundtrack, but I didn't mind the movie soundtrack.

It's a lot more, err, organy.

I always wanted to see Robert Guillaume in the role. Lucky guy Bahd. I only saw the Broadway version once - a tour came to the Ordway in St. Paul. Fantastic show.

What's the point if there's no chandelier about to fall on your head?

Maybe it's because I never saw the play, I'm sure it would have been better...but i though it was absolute crap... My wife dragged me to see it and since Meet the Fokers was sold out I had no other choice. And guess what she hated it too. So I'm sure it's not just me. Then again I would hate anything that would include dudes in tight pants strutting around and singing for about 3 hours...the girl was not bad, but i did find myself dozing off several times. But don't take my word for it, go and feel the "experience" for yourself...just remember I warned ya.

I don't hate Rent nearly as much as I hate Rentheads.

"Oh. My. God. It changed me."

Whatever. The storyline wasn't even original and the Southpark movie is of a higher musical standard. At the time it was released, it was just IN or something to put AIDS and promiscuous sex on stage blatantly (/wave Greek literature) so morons could understand it.

If you want to see a breakthrough play about AIDS, Angels In America did it before Rent was even concieved of, and is far less annoying to watch.

HAHA Totally hear you there. It didn't change shit. Just gave theatre a new kick. Course my favorite play being jekyl & hyde. that one gave me goose bumps.

As long as you're talking about the Verdi opera then sure...otherwise I'll pass.
