I'm going to surprise everyone and say that I found this movie to be excellent.

In fact, I cannot think of one thing that detracted from my enjoyment of the movie.

Although the plot was fairly simple and the outcome fairly predictable, the manner in which the story unfolded to get there was filled with interesting plot twists. The story-telling was practically flawless and the acting was amazingly convincing (specifically, the characters of Jin and Mei). Seriously, I can't get over how effective the story-telling was in this film.

This movie is stylistically similar to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragons, but does not drag on as much at certain points like the aforementioned movie did. I'm sure it bears resemblance to Hero as well, but I have not yet seen that one.

The fight scenes in House Of Flying Daggers are also not as far-fetched as in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - with the exception of one (the chase/capture scene in the trees). Actually, I can think of a couple more, but they were visually stunning.

I intend on seeing it again later on this week. This movie is a visual treat.
