EQII -- My First Impressions
Upsides:
Quests. This really does put the "quest" back in EverQuest. And no guessing, or looking up websites needed. Your quest journal has a checklist to follow for each quest you have, and the checklist updates with the next step each time you complete one.
You can pursue one quest single mindedly, (the "Tour of Antonica" I did this with, and had a blast -- and the reward aside from nice XP and cash was the only 10-slot bag I've seen in the game.) Or, you can just keep the quest in your journal and let it update as you complete parts by accident or providence.
Combat. Fun. Not as complex as it sounds once you get the knack for it, and skill will let you take down MOBs brute force won't.
Death. Still a PITA, still need to do CRs, but not nearly as punitive as EQ1, in that there is no downtime while you try to beg a rez from a friendly Cleric.
Classes. Varied, DPS types really are different from each other, all Priest classes can be primary healers. Some things will blow your mind, like Rangers with backstab.
Major downside:
RP on the Lucan ("RP Preferred") server consists mostly of Renfest types bitching in /ooc about people who don't RP to their standards. I expect this to die down, though.

Oh, and one upside/downside that made me love the game:
Part of the Tour of Antonica quest was visiting the grave of Holly Windstalker.
Hallelujah, the bitch is dead! Tell me I can't kill wolves now, Deady McDeado!
About two days later, I'm soloing -- some in-game miles from the grave-- and Holly Windstalker's GHOST comes out of nowhere and smacks me to hell in two hits.
I laughed my ass off.

It's pretty sad when the hardest part of an RPG is the attack from the other players.

You almost make me rethink my stance on abortions....rajavengerGIA wrote:WoW is fun becuase even though its easy to level you you still have many challenges. one of which is facing the alliance or horde in raids becuase it brings many high levels with sick gear against each other to a fight to the death
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

For all you old time Roleplayers. EQ2 is like the bad suff of chivalry and sorcery along with rolemaster tied up together and put into a mind numbing attraction with some intense graphics. Yes, end content can be hit at a quick pace if you play hard and grind it out. However, I never heard sony stop distributions due to server capacities being too high, infact thier stance from what I remember was. bah, take it like xil does, without analease.

In EQ2 there's no way you can hit "endgame" in a fortnight, unless you're talking about an artisan, or define "endgame" as zoning into Cazic Thule.
I don't understand the "server capacity" argument either given they brought new servers online to handle capacity as required. After all, a crowded server is far better than an empty one - especially in a game like EQ2 where the majority of content is dynamically instanced.
